Exploring Ceramic Glazes
This programme will equip you to develop your own glazes tailored to your specific needs. The course will comprise 6 x 3 hour sessions held once monthly on Friday mornings from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM at The Pottery Studio, 24 Old Kilcullen Road, Bryanston.

This course is designed for all ceramists, both hobbyists and professionals wishing to improve their knowledge of glazes and wanting to start developing their own personalised glazes.
You will learn the following: The role of raw materials used in glazes formulating glazes and how to use them in formulating recipes How to use colorants and opacifiers in glazes How to alter the maturing temperature of a glaze to suit your needs The ability to calculate glaze recipes from your tests Recognising and remedying glaze faults Why and how glazes react to each other How to improve your glazing skills The importance of correct firing schedules.
This course is designed for ceramists with their own working studios. The theory will be presented once a month over a period of six months giving time for the participants to make up their tests and fire them between classes. A list of materials needed will be supplied at the commencement of the course.
